Nordic Energy Research invites applicants to apply for the tender “Mapping Nordic Hydrogen Valleys”.
The goal of the study is to identify and map existing and coming hydrogen valleys in the Nordic region and develop a prototype digital tool for mapping Nordic hydrogen valleys. Furthermore, the study will investigate the potential for using clean hydrogen and other fuels based on clean hydrogen in Arctic maritime transport.
The study is meant to support the development of Nordic hydrogen valleys, contribute to the exchange of experiences among Nordic stakeholders, and to promote and enhance the Nordic strengths within the Nordic hydrogen value chains, e.g. internationally in relation to the established “Mission Innovation Hydrogen Valley Platform”.
Submission deadline is 8 January 2024 at 13:00 (CET)
Hydrogen is part of a value chain that spans from electricity generation to various end uses and their associated infrastructures and transportation. Work on clean hydrogen and fuels based on clean hydrogen become more important and will play a vital role in the future energy landscape in the Nordic region, EU, and internationally.
Many Nordic and international initiatives related to clean hydrogen and fuels based on clean hydrogen are underway, including the “Nordic Roadmap for Maritime Transport” and the comprehensive Nordic research programme Nordic Hydrogen Valleys as Energy Hubs – by 2030 and 2040.
According to the “EU Hydrogen strategy” (COM/2020/301), the production and use of hydrogen will grow significantly towards 2030-2050 and will be an important part of the EU strategy for energy system integration.
The Nordic Committee of Senior Officials for Energy Policy (EK-E) has commissioned a project for mapping Nordic hydrogen valleys to create an overview for relevant businesses, authorities, and policy decision makers to strengthen existing Nordic hydrogen valleys and their associated value chains as well as to contribute to the creation and development of new ones.
Assignment and available funding
The tasks of the study include:
- Concept creation and mapping of Nordic hydrogen valleys (based on the criteria from the Mission Innovation Hydrogen Valley Platform)
- Identifying drivers and barriers for the development of Nordic hydrogen valleys
- Analyzing the potential for using clean hydrogen and other fuels based on clean hydrogen in Arctic maritime transport
- Developing a prototype digital tool for mapping hydrogen valleys in the Nordic and Arctic regions
- Organization of meetings, presentations for national authorities etc.
The available budget is 1 215 000 NOK.
Nordic Energy Research acts as the contracting partner on behalf of the Nordic Committee of Senior Officials for Energy Policies.
