We support transnational research
Funding energy research and development projects is our core activity. We aim to create synergies by supporting Nordic projects with participants from three or more countries. Through our funding, researchers develop new international networks, benefit from access to facilities in partner countries, and learn from their Nordic counterparts.
Our support is managed through programmes
Our main funding programme runs in four-year cycles. Currently, 3 projects are funded through Nordic Flagship Projects, our main programme for 2015-2018. In 2011-2014, 10 projects were funded through “Sustainable Energy Systems 2050”. In addition, Nordic Energy Research regularly provides funding opportunities through several other programmes, such as Energy and Transport and the Top-level Research Initiative. We also administer European calls, such as the SmartGrids ERA-NET. We do not accept unsolicited project proposals. Calls will be announced on this webpage as well as in our newsletter.
Consortia representing at least three Nordic countries
To be eligible for funding, project proposals must include representatives from at least three Nordic countries (Iceland, Finland, Norway, Denmark and Sweden) or autonomous areas (the Faeroe Islands, Greenland and the Aaland Islands). A genuine division of work between the project participants is required. We do not finance participants from outside the Nordic countries, but in some cases calls for Baltic and Russian participation will be made.
Additional guidelines are posted together with individual calls. Take a look at our activities to see the type of activities we have supported in the past. If you have questions, please contact us.
