Welcome Sofia, our new communications intern

Sofia Løvø has joined Nordic Energy Research as a communications intern while completing her master’s degree in Internationl Governance and Diplomacy at Sciences Po in Paris. With experience from EU and EEA affairs in Brussels, she is particularly interested in how Nordic cooperation can support the green transition, energy security and the implementation of European energy policy.

Originally from Kolbotn outside Oslo, Sofia has lived and studied in several European cities, including Brussels, Lyon, Montpellier, Paris and Trondheim.

At Nordic Energy Research, she will work across a broad range of communications activities, covering both the organisation’s core work and initiatives such as the Clean Energy Transition Partnership (CETP).

Sofia holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), where she specialised in international politics and Norwegian foreign policy.

From Brussels to Nordic energy cooperation

Before embarking on her master’s, Sofia worked at the EFTA Surveillance Authority (ESA) in Brussels, where she focused on communications related to EEA affairs, including state aid, green subsidies and climate targets. The experience strengthened her interest in European energy cooperation and the growing strategic importance of energy policy.

Prior to ESA, Sofia also interned at the Mission of Norway to the EU, where she worked with education, research and regional policy issues and contributed to events related to energy and security.

Through her work in Brussels, she became particularly interested in how energy policy affects both European cooperation and local communities.

She points to Arctic and remote regions as examples of areas where energy security and the green transition are creating both challenges and opportunities for innovation.

Making complex energy issues understandable

Sofia has also gained broad experience in communications, including press relations, event coordination, photography and visual communication. During her previous roles, she contributed to events such as the EU–Norway Energy Conference and discussions on maritime security and resilience.

At Nordic Energy Research, she is looking forward to communicating complex energy issues in ways that feel accessible and relevant to wider audiences.

“Energy can be highly technical, but it also affects everyday life in very tangible ways,” she says. “Making these issues understandable and relevant is an important part of the transition.”
