The first stage of the Nordic Energy Challenge 2025 is concluded, with three candidates advancing to the final. Xin Sui and Shan He are one of the duos competing for the first place. How does their idea support the theme of this year – Nordic equality?

Xin Sui and Shan He, Assistant Professor and Postdoc Researcher, respectively, at Aalborg University.
- Names: Xin Sui and Shan He
- Positions: Postdoc Researcher and Assistant Professor
- Institution: Department of Energy, Aalborg University, Denmark
- Name of idea: SynDiv: Synchronizing Diversity in Decision-Making for an Inclusive Nordic Energy Transition with AI and Neuroscience
- Summary of idea: SynDiv provides an interdisciplinary initiative that explores how cognitive diversity in gender-balanced teams enhances strategic decision-making in the Nordic energy transition. This research goes beyond numerical gender representation to quantify the inclusive value of female perspectives. By collecting and analysing real-time behavioural and cognitive interaction data during team-based energy scenario tasks, SynDiv identifies how diverse viewpoints influence decision-making. In doing so, it establishes a quantifiable foundation for inclusive policy design that empowers equality throughout the Nordic energy value chain—from research to end-use. This approach is crucial for retaining under-represented women in Nordic energy sector and building a sustainable, inclusive energy future.
On 12 August, the winner of this year’s Nordic Energy Challenge will be presented at Arendalsuka, the Norwegian democracy festival. During Nordic Energy Research’s event Energiomstillingen i Norden: Hvordan forener vi sikkerhet med klimamål?, there will be an award ceremony announcing first, second, and third place.
