This project Bioenergy from seaweed in Nordic regions (BENIGN) puts focus on developing and optimising value chains for seaweed-based bioenergy, capable of producing biogas, bio-oil, and bioethanol, thereby advancing the transition to fossil-free energy.
The project tackles challenges such as insufficient infrastructure and underutilised value chains by fostering new collaborations among researchers, industry stakeholders, civil society, and policymakers. This includes developing tools and strategies to overcome barriers to implementing seaweed-based products and energy solutions.
By integrating advanced technologies, such as thermochemical conversion and anaerobic digestion, the project delivers new insights and innovative solutions to optimise energy production from seaweed resources. The results are expected to provide clear recommendations on technologies, value chain optimisation, and policy measures that can be implemented in the Nordic countries and globally.
