The Nordic Fire & Safety Network unites the major Nordic Universities and Research Institutes dealing with fire safety and risk management. The Technical University of Denmark (DTU), Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Lund University, Aalto University, LuleƄ University, University of Stavanger, Western Norway University of Applied Sciences and Iceland University as well as VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd and the Danish Institute of Fire and Security Technology.

In 2020, Nordic Energy Research decided to fund the Nordic Fire & Safety Network with the project The Nordic Fire and Safety Network Focus on Energy (NFSNergy). The project enables the networking and exchange of PhD students and researchers in the field of safety of buildings and energy infrastructures.

The project enables research collaborations for mutual projects and publications. It brings together multidisciplinary teams working on important energy -related initiatives promoting the fire safety of new bioenergy systems, energy storage systems in green buildings, improved digitalization through Building Information Models in construction and the fire safety of new energy carriers in green transport systems. Furthermore, NFSNergy arranges summer schools for PhD students. NFSNergy addresses professionals within safety and fire safety. Webinars and teaching for professionals are arranged as well as the biannual conference Nordic Fire and Safety Days.
