Denmark is the only Nordic country to have one ministry for climate and energy. Together with the Danish Energy Agency, it is responsible for renewable energy policy, performance and policy instruments in Denmark.

Energy research funding is largely the prerogative of the Council for Strategic Research under the Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation, and the Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Programme (EUDP) under the Danish Energy Agency. In addition, the Danish National Advanced Technology Foundation also funds energy research related to power, as does the Danish Transmission System Operator (TSO), energinet.dk
