There is already a number of initiatives for collaboration between individual Nordic universities and Chinese universities on energy issues and city development. The time has come to develop a Nordic network, and to explore strategic issues for further knowledge and business development with China.
A match making event was organized in Oslo at June 13th 2019. The mission was to combine knowledge to contribute to the global development of smart cities and smart energy solutions.
Participants included a delegation of ten professors and directors from Shanghai Association of Science and technology, with representatives for Shanghai Association for Science and Technology, Tongji University, Shanghai Edrive Co., Ltd., Shanghai Yangpu Technology Business Incubator Co, Ltd, and Shanghai Institute for Science of Science . The Nordic participants included IFE – Institute for Energy Technology (Norway), Aalborg University (Denmark), Aalto University (Finland), Swedish Electromobility Centre (Sweden), Norwegian University of Science and Technology – NTNU, House of Energy (Denmark), and also the NGOs Zero and Bellona (Norway).
All parties expressed enthusiasm after identifying areas of shared interest and mutual benefits. There was special interest for mobility of PhD students, and for technology transfer. For potential shared research activities, eMobility and Carcon Capture and Storage were given special attention.
Expectations are high for future collaboration and therefore it was decided that in 2020 there will be a follow-up event in Shanghai, where a Nordic delegation is invited to visit. This will be in relation to the planned Chinese-Nordic conference on smart energy and smart cities.
Nordic Energy research and Nordic Innovation hosted the event in Oslo.
